Brian Houf has been a woodworker for most of his adult life, but his primary focus over the last 10 years has been green woodworking--choosing to work with freshly felled, or unseasoned wood, rather than dried lumber.  Starting out with chairmaking and spoon carving, he eventually became interested in turning bowls, but rather than choosing to use a conventional lathe, he has built his own foot-powered "pole-lathe" style lathe.  Largely inspired by historical styles rooted in Scandinavian and European examples, he makes woodenware that is meant to be enjoyed for its utility as much as its beauty.
